South of Vice City, a chain of small islands extends into the ocean - GTA 6's clear analogue to the real Florida Keys. Trailer footage shows bridges connecting them, low-rise beach communities, and what looks like a Key West-inspired terminal town at the southern end. This page covers what the region looks like, how big it is, and the gameplay it likely supports.

For broader regional context see our Leonida map guide and our GTA 6 map locations catalogue.

Where the Keys sit on the map

The chain runs south-southwest from Vice City, mirroring the real Florida Keys' geography. Trailer 2 includes an aerial sequence showing the bridge connecting Vice City to the first major island, with the chain receding into the distance. Total length is hard to gauge from cinematic shots but the chain reads as substantial - several bridge-connected islands, not just one or two.

This region is part of Leonida but feels distinct from the rest of the state. Expect Rockstar to lean into that - missions set here will read differently from missions in Vice City or the wetlands.

The Key West analogue

At the far end of the chain, trailer footage suggests a party-town terminal point inspired by Key West. Low-rise pastel buildings, dive bars, marinas, and what looks like a Hemingway-style waterfront strip. Real Key West is a very specific cultural location and Rockstar's satire engine has obvious targets to aim at - expect a heavily caricatured take.

This will probably be one of the more memorable secondary locations in the game. Easter eggs and side content tend to cluster in Rockstar's most distinctive towns, and the Key West analogue is unmistakable.

Bridges as gameplay set pieces

The bridges connecting the Keys are major geographic features and almost certainly major mission set pieces. Trailer footage hints at a chase sequence on one of them. Expect at least one signature mission to use the bridges as a constrained, high-tension setting - similar to how GTA 5 used the freeway and the Vinewood sign.

Geographic constraint is a known design tool. Rockstar uses it to amplify drama: long bridges, narrow tunnels, mountain passes. The Keys bridges are tailor-made for it.

Fishing, boating & coastal gameplay

The Keys are a maritime region - boats, fishing, dive sites, and offshore activity should anchor the gameplay loop here. Trailer footage shows multiple boat models including small fishing skiffs, larger sport-fishing rigs, and what looks like a charter operation. Boat-based traversal will be more meaningful in this region than anywhere else on the map.

Underwater content likely concentrates around the Keys too. The real Florida Keys have extensive reef systems and shipwreck dive sites; expect Rockstar to pull from both for collectible and side-content placement.

How the Keys connect to the rest of Leonida

Primary access is the bridge from Vice City. Trailer footage suggests a coastal highway running the chain end-to-end. Boats and small aircraft are the alternate routes - expect at least one airfield somewhere in the chain for short-hop flights to Vice City.

Custom map mods extending the Keys will likely arrive once the GTA 6 modding toolchain matures. The geography offers obvious places to add custom MLOs (more dive shops, marinas, themed RP zones) - track availability at GTA 6 map downloads.
